About Quinthea
Who makes these tests, why they exist, and where the line is between fun and science.
Quinthea started from a simple frustration: most personality tests online either insult your intelligence or hide a paywall behind a cliffhanger. We wanted a third option - tests that are quick, genuinely interesting, free to finish, and honest about what they can and cannot tell you.
Two kinds of tests, clearly labelled
Every test on this site carries one of two labels, and we never blur them.
- Science-based tests are adapted from published psychological models - the Big Five, attachment theory, regulatory focus, chronotype research and others. Each one lists the model it draws on and the papers behind it. They are simplified for a five-minute format, so they are a mirror, not a diagnosis.
- For fun tests make no scientific claim whatsoever. They are built to be enjoyable and shareable. If a test tells you which kind of coffee you are, it is not measuring anything real, and we say so on the page.
How we build a science-based test
Every science-based test goes through the same steps:
- We start from a published, validated questionnaire or model.
- We write our own questions that measure the same traits. We do not copy copyrighted questionnaires, which also means your score cannot be compared with the published norms of the original.
- About 40% of the questions are reverse-worded, so agreeing with everything does not inflate your score.
- Every source is checked against bibliographic databases before the test is published.
- Each test ends with an honest "worth knowing" note on the limits of the research behind it.
Tests that come close to health topics are framed as everyday traits, never as diagnoses.
How we write articles
Each article answers a real question with published research and lists its sources at the end. When a famous finding has failed to replicate, or is weaker than its reputation, the article says so.
What we will not do
We will not ask for your email to show you a result you already earned. We will not invent a research citation that does not exist. We will not tell you that a five-minute quiz can diagnose a condition. And we will not sell your answers - they never leave your browser in the first place.
How the site pays for itself
Quinthea is free and is funded by advertising. Ads are clearly marked, kept out of the middle of questions, and never disguised as a result. If you would rather not see personalised ads, choose "Essential only" when we ask, or change your answer at any time through the Privacy choices link at the bottom of every page. The site keeps working exactly the same.
Four languages
Everything here exists in English, Portuguese, Spanish and French. The translations are written, not machine-generated, because a personality question that reads oddly gives you a meaningless answer.
Who is behind Quinthea
Quinthea is an independent site published by Rita Raquel Carvalho Rodrigues de Oliveira (3080-325 Figueira da Foz, Portugal). There are no sponsored results.
