What Type of AI User Are You?
Everyone uses it. Almost nobody uses it the same way.
Two people with the same tool open on the same screen can be doing entirely different things with it. One is handing over a job. One is arguing with it. One is asking how something works. One is checking whether it will get caught out. The tool has not changed - the relationship has. This is for fun, and the useful part is recognising which habit you have settled into without deciding to.
Before you start There are no right answers. Pick what is usually true for you, not what sounds best.
Answer about what you actually do, not about what you would say at work. Ten questions.
What it measures
Which of five recognisable habits you have fallen into. There is no research behind these five - they are a way of describing something too new to have been studied properly, and most people will see a bit of themselves in two of them.
Possible results
The Delegator
You hand over whole jobs and collect the result
The Sparring Partner
You argue with it until you know what you think
The Apprentice
You want to understand it, not just have it
The Sceptic
You use it and you believe none of it
The Tourist
You visit occasionally and never move in
Common questions
Is one of these types better than the others?
Not in general, but they fail differently, and knowing your failure is worth more than knowing your type. The Delegator's risk is that a confident mistake goes out unchecked. The Sceptic's is spending more time verifying than the task was worth. The Apprentice can mistake understanding for ability. The Sparring Partner can have a satisfying hour and produce nothing. The Tourist's cost is the one nobody notices, because it is made of things that simply took longer.
Can you be more than one?
Almost everybody is, and the most useful pattern is people who switch by stakes rather than by preference: delegating the routine, sparring on the difficult, checking hard on anything that will carry their name. If you recognised yourself in two of these, that is probably what is happening - and it is a better arrangement than any single type held consistently.
An honest note This is for entertainment and nothing here is measured. These tools are a few years old and there is no validated way of classifying how people use them - the five types are a description written from observation, not a finding, and most people are a mix of two. Where something real is being referred to, such as people abandoning an automated system after seeing it err once, it comes from research on earlier technologies and is noted as such. If you want the version of this question with actual research behind it, the test on how you use AI to think is the one built on studies rather than on types.
