Cookie policy

Exactly which files this site stores on your device, and why.

Last updated: 2026-10-08

Our own storage

The site itself sets no cookies. It uses your browser's local storage for four small values:

  • q-theme - whether you chose light or dark.
  • q-lang - the language you last used.
  • q-consent - your consent choice, so we stop asking.
  • q-progress-... - a half-finished test, so you can pick up where you left off.

None of these leave your device, and none identify you. Deleting your browser data for this site removes all four.

Nothing before you consent

No script from Google or Microsoft is loaded, and none of their cookies is set, before you consent. Copies of the site opened locally never load them.

Measurement cookies (only with your consent)

  • _ga and _ga_<ID> - Google Analytics 4, to count visits. Up to 2 years.
  • _clck - Microsoft Clarity, for heatmaps and anonymised session recordings. Up to 1 year.
  • _clsk - Microsoft Clarity, same purpose. 1 day.

Advertising cookies

Google AdSense and its certified partners may set cookies to measure ad performance and, where you allow it, personalise the ads you see. Examples of cookies set by Google include __gads, __gpi and __eoi, as well as cookies on the google.com and doubleclick.net domains. This is not an exhaustive list.

These cookies are set by Google, not by us, and are governed by Google's own privacy policy. If you choose "Essential only", ads may still appear, but they are non-personalised or limited.

Changing your mind

The Privacy choices link at the bottom of every page lets you change your answer at any time, whether you answered in our own banner or in Google's consent message.

You can also manage ad personalisation in Google My Ad Center, opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at www.aboutads.info, read how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, or block cookies entirely in your browser settings. Blocking them does not stop the tests from working.

Do Not Track

Browsers send this signal inconsistently and there is no agreed standard for honouring it, so we rely on your consent choice instead, which is explicit and auditable.
